Nevele: NYS Approves Proposition 1, Clears Way for Casino Gaming
In the November 5th election, NYS voters approved an amendment to the state constitution that will allow the development of up to seven commercially operated casinos. The casinos are estimated to generate over $400 million in tax revenue a year for the state, which plans on creating a desirable resort destination in New York that is able to support the local economy.
Michael Treanor is leading a group looking to build one of the proposed casinos at the former site of the Nevele Hotel in the Catskills, an area that Governor Cuomo sees as a viable option. As per an article in the New York Daily News:
“We want the New York City market coming north,” Cuomo said during a stop in the Catskills on Wednesday, one of several he made to celebrate the passage of the amendment he favored. To promote tourism, you need somewhere for tourists to go,” Cuomo continued. “And that is what we are talking about with these resort destinations.”
